Joanne Marshall has been teaching yoga in Chapel Hill for over 10 years and is a registered teacher with the Yoga Alliance. She offers a slower, deeper approach to yoga poses and movement that is suitable for newcomers to yoga as well as experienced practitioners who want to refine their poses and increase their inner awareness. Joanne has received teacher training from Donna Farhi, a well-known international teacher and author of many books on yoga. She has also studied with numerous teachers in the Triangle and elsewhere. In her mindful yoga practice, Joanne is inspired by Jon Kabat-Zinn and his work on mindfulness meditation. Joanne describes her style of yoga as a form of "meditation in motion" and believes that, with appropriate modifications, there is a yoga for everyone regardless of age, physical limitations, or fitness level. In her everyday life, Joanne is a professor of information and library science at UNC Chapel Hill where she teaches and conducts research on health and workforce issues.
