The North Carolina Botanical Garden has received, and continues to receive, awards from a wide variety of organizations and professional societies.
- Program Excellence Award, American Association of Botanical Gardens and Arboreta, 2004
- Award of Excellence, National Garden Clubs, Inc, 2004
- North Carolina Sustainability Award, for the Conservation Garden and Visitor Education Center, from Sustainable North Carolina, 2004
- Public Service Award, from North Carolina Nature Conservancy
- Invasive Weeds Awareness Coalition Award for exceptional educational efforts and initiative in the battle against invasive plants in the United States, 2002 - 2003
- Jean & Pearson Stewart Appearance Award, for Louise Coker Park, from the Town of Chapel Hill Community Design Commission, 2000
- Silver Telly Award from the Center for Creativity for the video, "Fire and the Longleaf," produced by the North Carolina Botanical Garden and Laurel Hill Press. The same video also won a Videographer Award of Excellence, 1999
- First Prize in the National Park Service's Excellence in Interpretation competition for Director Peter White's book Wildflowers of the Smokies, 1998
- Robert E. Stipe Appearance Award for the Coker Arboretum entry design, from the Town of Chapel Hill Community Design Commission, 1998
- Jean and Pearson Stewart Appearance Award, from the Town of Chapel Hill Appearance Commission, 1996
- Appearance Award for Excellence in Preservation of the Paul Green Cabin, from the Town of Chapel Hill Community Appearance Commission, 1994
- Home of the North Carolina Botanical Garden Award and the Flora Caroliniana Award.
