Chapel Hill, NC – The North Carolina Botanical Garden (NCBG) will hosts its 27th Sculpture in the
Garden September 20 ‐ December 11, an outdoor exhibition of works by North Carolina artists.
Forty‐one large‐scale works will grace NCBG’s outdoor environment featuring an assortment of materials including steel, concrete, wood, marble and more. The native plant gardens at NCBG change with the season, offering new and interesting views of the sculptures throughout this invitational exhibition.
Jennifer Edwards, curator at the Bechtler Museum in Charlotte, North Carolina, has been selected as the juror for this year’s show. Awards include Best in Show, Merit, and People’s Choice.
A Preview Party on Saturday, September 20, 4:30‐7 p.m., gives ticket holders an opportunity to enjoy the gardens, view the sculptures, and meet the artists. Guests can also vote for the People’s Choice award, make early purchases, and enjoy hors d’oeuvres by Mark Day and classical guitar music by Chris Alberti and Mark Liberto. Tickets cost $40, $35 for NCBG members, and are available at ncbg.unc.edu.
Homegrown, a stickwork sculpture created last year for the NCBG by renowned artist Patrick Dougherty, continues to delight visitors as they roam through its passageways and look out its windows. Constructed on‐site using saplings harvested locally, the sculpture will continue to entertain visitors until December 2016.
