Chapel Hill – Thomas Rainer, author of Planting Design in a Post‐Wild World, will discuss using native plants in landscape design during the North Carolina Botanical Garden’s annual Jenny Elder Fitch lecture on Sunday, November 6, 2‐ 4 p.m.
Rainer, a leading voice in ecological landscape design, reveals an alternative to traditional horticulture. He has designed plantings that function like naturally occurring plant communities, and he will explain how these beautiful landscapes also serve as wildlife reserves for plants and animals. A lecture and book signing will follow the lecture.
Jenny Elder Fitch was a local plant enthusiast and gardener, and the endowment for the lecture series was donated by her husband after her passing. Every autumn since 1999, a renowned gardener or horticulturist has visited the Garden to present the lecture.
