Jerrry Allen Snider

(b. 1937)

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Herbarium (NCU) has cataloged to date about a dozen vascular plant specimens (mostly ferns from Virginia) and 140 bryophytes (mostly from Giles County, Virginia) collected by Jerry Snider.

Jerry Snider earned his M.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill under the direction of C. Ritchie Bell.  The title of his thesis was “A variation study of Agalinis decemloba & Agalinis obtusifolia in the Carolinas” (1969).  He went on to earn a Ph.D. from Duke University in 1974 with his thesis, “A revision of the genus Archidium (Musci).”

Snider joined the Biology Department at the University of Cincinnati in 1974 and served as the curator of the Margaret H. Fulford Herbarium (CINC) from 1974 to 2001.(1)
