Conservation Gardening 101: Landscaping with Native Plants (Hybrid Series)

August 12 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Conservation Gardening 101: Landscaping with Native Plants is a certificate series designed to provide home gardeners and emerging landscape professionals with foundational concepts of landscape design, native species selection, implementation and maintenance of compellingly beautiful and ecologically productive native plant gardens based on conservation principles.

This blended program (featuring online and in-garden components) will cover six conservation gardening topics through online pre-recorded lectures, three outdoor instructor-led classes at the Garden, and a variety of other resource materials shared with participants. Two in-garden classes will take place in the NCBG display gardens and a third will meet at the Coker Arboretum. Each session will cover two conservation gardening topics. Two topics of pre-recorded lectures will be provided to participants every two weeks, allowing ample time for self-paced review and digestion prior to each class meeting. Participants who attend all three Garden classes and show evidence of watching all lecture content (e.g. successful completion of a final quiz) will receive a Certificate of Participation from the Garden.

Conservation gardening topics included in this series are Landscape Design Principles, Native Plant Selection – Perennials, Native Plant Selection – Shrubs and Trees, Weeding, Mulching, and Seasonal Maintenance, Landscape Installation, and Pruning and Long-Term Maintenance of Woody Plants.
