with Katherine Gill, PLA, ASLA, Principal and Co-owner, Tributary Land Design + Build, Durham, NC

In this online class, Katherine will illustrate key principles of landscape design and share how she uses native wildflower plantings to increase the aesthetics and ecological function of landscapes. By showing examples of her own work, she will share techniques to design with native wildflowers with a number of site conditions. Examples will include wildflower borders, alternatives to lawn, and other small-scale flowering landscapes. She will also share some of her favorite native wildflowers that make great alternatives to often overused traditional landscape plants. Look forward to assignments to explore outdoors in between classes for Zoom class discussions.

As a result of participating in this class, participants will:

  • Increase their knowledge of native wildflower species for the home garden
  • Be able to describe key principles of planting design
  • Have an increased appreciation for a variety of landscape aesthetics
  • Have ideas of native wildflower alternatives to many flowering plants that are often overused in home landscapes
