While affectionately referred to as “the Pine state,” North Carolina could just as easily be called “the Oak state.” There are at least 34 species of oaks (Quercus) occurring naturally in North Carolina, a good number of which occur in the North Carolina piedmont ecoregion.
Join NCBG Research Botanist Scott Ward for an oak-focused hike around the New Hope Bottomlands Trail, where we will learn about 12 species of oak occurring in this crucial stronghold of the NC wildlife corridor.
