Announcing the New and Updated

Certificate and Advanced Certificate in Native Plants

From 2001 to 2020, we offered the Certificate in Native Plant Studies. As of 2021, we are relaunching this program with enhanced flexibility to support the varied goals of our participants. Both of the program’s two paths, the Certificate and Advanced Certificate in Native Plants, enable you to deepen your understanding of the native flora of the southeastern United States.

  • The Certificate in Native Plants is geared toward the dedicated amateur botanist/naturalist.
  • The Advanced Certificate in Native Plants is geared toward the professional and provides a strong background of knowledge for those involved in botanical, ecological, and conservation endeavors.

Independent Study Project

As a culmination of the program, students complete either a capstone experience (a short-term volunteer placement) or an independent study project.

The independent study project confers a certificate with honors. Past projects have included everything from location-specific plant inventories to a study on pollinator diversity in a suburban yard.
