About Plant Conservation
The Garden’s Conservation Programs conducts plant conservation at multiple levels. We conduct both pure and applied research on the ecology and restoration of rare plants as well as curate a seed bank for the protection of genetic material for some of the rarest plants in the Southeastern US. We also have begun a Native Plant Materials Development Program to increase the diversity of common species available for ecological restoration. These materials will not only benefit our own natural areas, but those of our partners throughout the region. Our program also actively works in land conservation and in applying the best management practices to our natural areas. In all of our work, we seek to engage the public and to work with partners to advance the protection and conservation of our native plants and natural communities.
