The Flora Apps
We are pleased to announce a new set of FloraQuest apps. In March 2024, the Southeastern Flora Team, led by Alan Weakley, Michael Lee, Scott Ward, Chris Ludwig, and Katie Gibson, released the second app called FloraQuest: Carolinas & Georgia in addition to the first app FloraQuest: Northern Tier that covers the northern part of the Flora area.
Each app covers more than 5,800 wildflowers, trees, shrubs, grasses, and other vascular plants that occur outside of cultivation in their respective regions shown below.

How it Works
The FloraQuest apps provide both easy to use Graphic Keys and more advanced Dichotomous Keys, phenology, habitat descriptions, species range maps, conservation status, synonymies, and over 20,000 diagnostic photographs for the plants occurring in their region of the Flora of the Southeastern United States. In addition, the apps provides a guide to the best sites for botanical exploration throughout their region. For reference, the apps include a glossary (just click a technical term and its definition pops up!) and a bibliography.
The apps do not need an Internet connection to run, so you can use it no matter where your wanderings take you. All copies of the app include the first two images for each plant, and if you want more and have space on your device, you can download the additional images in an image pack.
Which states are included in the which app? What other apps do you have planned?
FloraQuest: Northern Tier covers Delaware, Kentucky, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, and Washington DC, as well as southern portions of Illinois, Indiana, New York, and Ohio, as shown on the map below. Areas in white are excluded from the flora.
FloraQuest: Carolinas & Georgia includes North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia.
Future FloraQuest versions and their regions shown below.
With the FloraQuest apps, you can customize the flora region by state and physiographic province. Want to have your app just show you just the flora of Pennsylvania? – click a button and it’s done. Want only the Piedmont species? – again, click a button.
