We report with sadness that Al Radford, a central figure in southeastern botany and long-time director of the the University of North Carolina Herbarium, passed away on April 12, 2006. There will be a memorial service for Dr. Radford in Chapel Hill at University Presbyterian Church (209 East Franklin Street) on June 11, 2006, 3 pm.
Dr. Radford and his late wife Laurie Stewart Radford remained strong advocates of the Herbarium after his retirement and made a leadership gift to promote the move of the Herbarium to its own building at the North Carolina Botanical Garden — a move that we still pursue.
