SCHEDULING
Registration opens for the 2023-24 school year on August 21.
- Fall 2023 – Guided Field Trip Season: September 19 through November 15
- Spring 2024 – Guided Field Trip Season: March 26 through May 17
NOTE: The Garden is closed on Mondays and state holidays. Guided programs are only available Tuesdays through Fridays during the fall and spring season dates listed above. Consider a self-guided field trip if you would like to visit during the weekend or off-season.

GROUP SIZE
Maximum group size is 40 students per program. Minimum group size for a guided field trip is 8 students. We cannot accommodate siblings.
NOTE: If you would like to bring more than 40 students for a guided program, you will need to request an additional program on a separate date. We can only accommodate 40 students per day. Please fill out a request form for each date you would like to visit.
CHAPERONES
We require one adult chaperone/teacher for every 5 students. A maximum of 8 chaperones/teachers per program are permitted.
FEES
See field trip descriptions for cost per student. There is no charge for teachers or chaperones.
FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE
In an effort to reach public schools that are most in need, we offer a limited number of partial fee waivers for Title I schools. To request a fee waiver, contact Lauren Greene at lgreene@unc.edu.
PAYMENT
Invoices must be paid before or on your program date. We reserve the right to cancel your program if payment is not received by your program date. We accept cash, check, or credit card. If credit card is preferred, an online invoice can be sent in advance of your program.
CANCELLATIONS
A minimum one (1) week notice in writing is required for a refund. Groups that do not cancel will be billed the full program(s) fee. To cancel, contact Lauren Greene at lgreene@unc.edu. If your program is cancelled by the Garden or due to weather, we will make every effort to reschedule your group or refund your fee.
WEATHER POLICY
Field trips take place entirely outdoors. Should the forecast look unfavorable for your field trip, staff will contact you the day before your program. We will make every attempt to reschedule but cannot guarantee that a date will be available. If we are not able to reschedule your group, you will receive a full refund.
